The 4 steps for ‘building powerful and effective teams and team relationships’

This is a logical and highly effective structured skills development approach designed to develop the soft skills of ‘people who manage and supervise people.’ It is the result of 20 years of people development and leadership experience, has taken 18 months plus to develop and includes a flexible programme of 24 courses, with flexible delivery options, to satisfy the requirements of each of the 4 steps.

STEP 1. Know yourself

It is important for ‘people who manage and lead people’ to know themselves, their strengths and development areas, their job role, its importance within the organisation, their motivators and drivers and how they come across to different people. They should also know their behavioural, leadership and communication style as well as their personality type. This will help them to appreciate the reasons why they get results that they get from their management interventions and why they get on with, and get better results from some team members, than others
.
Surprisingly many managers and team leaders are UNAWARE of their leadership, communication
or behavioural style, and this makes it difficult to identify what to keep doing and what to change.

STEP 2. Know your team

Once an individual knows and understands themselves it's vital that they are able to quickly and easily get to know their team and its people. By identifying team member communication and behavioural style, their personality type and their needs, wants and motivators they can then adapt their leadership style and approach accordingly. Combine STEP 1 (know yourself) with STEP 2 (know your team) and your team leaders will have the techniques and skills to decide on the best approach for that team member and deliver a highly personal, flexible and effective leadership experience.

This is different from leadership style and is focused on the actions and activities around which your leadership skills are based. Leadership interventions are most effective when they are structured, communicated and focused on the core or main issues that require attention. Information analysis, identifying trends and development needs, as well as planning, goal setting and developing people, teamwork and motivation are key areas discussed in this section.
